CUBE Today
The CUBE Group is an internationally-operating engineering and consulting firm specializing in wind energy. With office and subsidiaries in Germany, Romania, the UK and the US, we have provided engineering and consulting services for more than 2,700 projects on six continents. The growth of CUBE has run parallel to the growth of the wind industry, beginning in Germany at the start of the wind power boom in the early 1990s and growing and expanding worldwide into the CUBE of today.
Beginnings of CUBE
The roots of the CUBE group were put down in the early 1990s, when CUBE co-founders Stefan Chun and Joerg Beland each founded their own companies in the budding German wind industry. After getting his degree in electrical engineering at the University of Kassel, in Germany, Mr. Chun founded Ingeniuerbuero Chun in 1991. In close cooperation with the Kassel-based Institute for Solar Energy Supply Technology (ISET), Ingeniuerbuero Chun quickly became known for its high-quality wind assessments. Six years later, in June of 1997, Mr. Chun founded Ingeniuerbuero Chun/Chun & Ritter Gbr with former classmate Peter Ritter, which existed until its later merger with plenum energy.
After many years working as a director of sales for turbine manufacturers Vestas and Nordtank in Germany, Joerg Beland founded plenum energy GmbH in 1997. Mr. Beland, a trained computer scientist who has been in the wind industry since 1991, focused on the development of wind energy projects from a project planning and construction perspective.
As the use of wind power increased in Europe, the founders of both companies recognized that consultants and engineers in the renewable energy were increasingly being asked to work beyond the borders of their own country. Such international assignments required competent, highly adaptable partners with field-leading expertise and resources.

A partnership between Chun & Ritter and plenum energy was an ideal match of just such resources and expertise. In addition to a common working philosophy and commitment to quality, the firms enjoyed a relatively large overlap between their activities, but with various specializations and experience. Two years of synergistic cooperation proved this relationship successful and in 2002, the partnership was made permanent with the merger of the two firms into CUBE Engineering GmbH |
Since this merger, CUBE has continued to grow and provide professional and creative solutions for our clients. Our increased in-house range of services and experience has allowed us to flourish and we look forward to meeting the challenges to come.
